For this sound work that played with loudspeaker interruptions, the artist recorded herself singing the following songs: ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’ by The Smiths, ‘Hang On’ by Teenage Fan Club, and ‘How Much I Lied’ by Gram Parsons.  With this work, created for the 2003 Tate Triennial, Philipsz offers visitors the opportunity to reflect on a more tranquil and conscious musical alternative, in the face of the flat, mechanical, pretentious and soulless music so often heard in public spaces.
